IC information
Name:
Commander Malexa
Race:
Reman
Gender:
Female
Age:
38
Career Path:
Engineering
Ship:
RRW Komoran (Ar'kif Tactical Warbird)
Physical Description:
Malexa has a stocky, muscular build, a product of several decades spent either running from or fighting Romulans to survive. She has a large, crescent-shaped scar on the back of her head, a product of Romulan experiments with Reman psionic abilities. As an additional result of these experiments, Malexa is almost always wearing either a hood or goggles as her eyes are even more sensitive to light than the average Reman.
Clothing-wise Malexa tends to wear the standard Republic uniform, with a blueish undershirt. For off-duty wear she prefers clothes with green or blue tones and tends to wear anything light and flexible.
Personality:
Malexa conducts herself professionally when dealing with Captains that she has not met or fully befriended. She becomes quite terse with those who outrank her, particularly ones she has not known for long -- not out of any hostility, but due to ingrained fears of authority left from her childhood. Subsequently she seems to overcompensate the opposite way in her own command style, being a bit lax about regulations and not prone to handing out discipline. This may also be due to her early career as a bounty hunter and later as part of the Reman Resistance, where the pomp and ceremony that so classifies professional institutions like Starfleet was quite absent. She tends to be the most friendly with fellow Remans from years of experience serving on all-Reman crews.
When not in uniform, Malexa can be quite friendly, although occasionally guarded. She tends to be a good listener and prefers to hear others talk about themselves, rather than the other way around.
Unlike most Remans, the experiments conducted on her left her with a severely stunted capacity for telepathic empathy, and she is often forced to rely on mostly the same hunches and social cues as other humanoids.
Family:
Malexa has a father, Jinarit and two brothers, both younger: Vinrash (37) and Iroto (36). Both serve in the Republic Navy.
She is married to Yunar, a Reman scientist who lives in The Vault.
Background:
Malexa was born sixteen years before the Hobus supernova, to one of the many Reman families eking out a living on the Romulan frontier planet of Gow II. Her childhood was filled with backbreaking labour, beatings by Romulan overseers and street gangs, and the constant threat of hunger. Her mother did her best to ensure that her children were still given a decent education despite their situation, believing that it would be vital for them to build a new Reman state at some point in the future. It was during this early time in her life Malexa and her siblings became quite well-known for their psionic potential, which was not a surprise given that both their mother and father both came from lines with strong talents for telepathy.
Malexa spent most of her pre-teens and teens keeping her younger brothers out of trouble, often having to resort to violent intervention. Always outnumbered, Malexa learned to rely on her powers and clever traps she designed herself to keep the upper hand. Her reputation as a fierce fighter was well-known around her settlement. This would prove to be unwanted attention after the destruction of Hobus in 2387. The flood of Romulan refugees seriously destabilized the tense balance of the colony and soon fighting was ever more constant. It was in this period of unrest that Malexa was kidnapped by a Romulan science team, who believed that with brain surgery they could turn Remans into a powerful telepathic soldier class and secure their own power in the now-chaotic Star Empire. Their experiment was deemed a failure -- while Malexa's offensive physic powers had been dramatically boosted, her empathetic powers had been almost entirely stunted. She was slated for "disposal" until her brothers managed to pull of an escape attempt, the violence of which set off a war between the wealthy original Romulan families, some of the Romulan refugees, and the Remans. By the time it was over Malexa's mother had died, and her colony was in ruins. Taking what little she had, she set out to support her family by becoming a bounty hunter, putting her years of fighting experience to good use. She spent the next five years making a decent living doing this, until she met members of the Reman Resistance, growing in strength. With her remaining family safely settled at this point, she joined the fight for Reman independence, gaining notoriety as a particularly effective operative of their nascent Special Operations division. With the fall of Sela and the founding of the Republic, she was transferred to the Republic Navy, serving on two ships before being given command of her own.

How much RP experience do you have and what other mmo/tabletop rpg's have you played?:
I've been RPing in STO almost since it went free to play. STO is also my first MMO (aside from a brief stint with Earth and Beyond -- does anyone remember that?).
My main experience with Tabletop RPGs has been with Spirit of the Century and FATE Core, although I have also played GURPs and Eclipse Phase.
What interested you in our Fleet and what are you hoping to get out of your time with us?, do you have any particular charter plots in mind for you captain that you'd like to share with us?:
I heard about you guys through Jeren (@lightofthesun1) and you seem pretty active, so that's a plus. I don't really have anything planned for Malexa at this time.
How much do you know about Trek?:
Quite a bit. At the very least I know how to hunt down what I want on Memory Alpha. EU stuff in the books and on Memory Beta I am not so hot on.
Who is your favorite Starfleet Captain?:
Picard, hands down.
Trapped on a desolate planet with an angry Gorn and no weapons what would you do?:
Run. Run very far. And probably die anyways.
