Chief Medical Officer's Log - Stardate 91612.4
Chief of Medicine Kasandi D'Saryn. Initial tests into the spheres brought back from the crashed Romulan ship on the moon of Eurydice have given up very little information so far. I believe my replication of the sphere's and their contents will be good enough for rough testing, enough that I can be certain of my results before attempting anything on the originals. As Science Officer T'Pau had mentioned in her notes, the chemical make up of the materials within the sphere appear to be a lipid containing various strings of mRNA. Interestingly, they seem to react negatively to the bacteria of Eurydice, the two actively repelling one another. All attempts to combine the two have resulted in this phenomenon, much like similar poled magnets will. This leads some credence to the theory that these orbs may be a form of recording information, much like some cultures used to store it on magnetic tape.
It may just be bias due to the form of the object, but I also can't help thinking of it as some sort of egg. Can an egg hold information; allow the information to compile?
Nurse V'yl has informed me of a rash of illness moving across the station. The Romulan captives, and now the Chief of Security have become feverish, and vomiting frequently. She says the Romulans have also started to become delusional - not uncommon amongst fevers. I advised her to keep both groups isolated and to restrain the prisoners if they become violent. IV hydration measures might be required. I have requested blood samples brought from both the Romulans and Commander Harrison. It may just be a coincidence, but if the Romulans are our "patient zero" with this illness, it may have something to do with these orbs.
I should check their blood work for any traces of the lipid compounds or the bacteria from Eurydice. If negative I will have V'yl run further tests.

Chief Medical Officer's Log - Stardate 91614.2
Chief of Medicine Kasandi D'Saryn. No traces of the orb's strand lipids have been identified in Starbase 332's infected. I believe our Romulan prisoners may be the carriers - perhaps not the originators but tests have shown the presence of a virus unlike anything I have ever seen. It seems to attack the neurological pathways - (Personal Note: Have Nurse Nox bring me the blood samples from the escaped Romulan - the ring leader. Perhaps he was an asymptomatic carrier? ). Patients are currently restrained. If they continue to degrade they may have to be placed into stasis.
Further plan - Test Myelin fibers for striations or other tissue trauma. Test lipid and protein make up, and see if any missing lipids or amino acids match the contents of the spheres. Test the Eurydice moon bacteria for correlation with this new virus.

I have placed a request to Captain Edzya that the station be placed under quarantine. It seems the illness is spreading through the base. Hardly a surprise, with how long it took us to catch it, the closely confined quarters and reprocessed air. Even if the life support filters are working optimally, we might be nearing complete saturation of the base populace soon. No time to work out the math. If I become infected, I would only have a limited time before it starts to affect my thinking. I need to get back to work. ...I hope at least some of our people were off station when this started.

Chief Medical Officer's Log - Stardate 91614.7
Further tests on Tain Herlak's blood samples show him to be free of contamination. What ever these other Romulans, and our crew have, he didn't - at least when his blood was taken. However closer look at the virus strain has brought up some interesting findings. It appears the RNA of the virus and the RNA contained in there sphere's lipids have very similar characteristis. The two seem to have different purposes, but on initial study seem to share an origin. ...*clearing her throat*
Computer - retrieve for me the security feed of Primary Science lab - ...was it the science lab?
Perhaps the sphere WAS an egg.. an incubator of sorts. Perhaps what was growing inside was this virus? I need to run further diagnostics on the virus. Use what I have to fill in the gaps of what we know of the sphere's lipids. Who was present when the first sphere broke? Kingston? T'Pau? ..is T'Pau still functional? Mm.. cognitively I mean?
Computer - get me the location of Chief Science Officer T'Pau.
The sphere's are still incomplete. If the virus was synthesized in them, then there would still be a DNA component. I need more information if I am going to be able to synthesize a treatment in time. ...if I'm even on the right trail. *quiet coughing*

Computer - Analyze Sphere "shell" material for glucosamine derivatives, or any other sugars or DNA chains that might suggest a chitinous cell structure.

Chief Medical Officer's Log - Stardate 91615
*Coughs* Security logs are consistent with what I assumed - the first affected by this illness were those present when the orb shattered. Having just recently begun showing symptoms myself, I have taken a blood sample and will see if the early stages of the virus are a closer match to the original lipids found in *coughs violently* ...in the orb.
Were these orbs meant as some sort of bioweapon? Or did it just become one? I suppose right now that doesn't matter *coughs* Must see how closely the virus in my body matches the more advanced stages in the other patients. The non virus in the orb. It's obviously an airborne pathogen. *loud, prolonged coughing bout* I need to clear my head. Computer - end log.

Tests on the virus in my own system has not lead to any more answers than I had before. I wish I had access to an early sample before it infected the crew of 332. I... we lost some of the patients. If we don't find an answer soon we may lose the rest. We may start losing crew. We - * the statement is interrupted by a violent coughing fit*.
On further inspection of the orbs, the language reminds me of the language surrounding myself and Captain Vega, when we were abducted on the desert planet, weeks ago. May - *coughs* ...I need water. Computer - pause log.
*brief audio break, then the log resumes*
Studies have shown that the lipids held inside the sphere repulse the virus in the same manner as it does the moon's bacteria. Perhaps it was just to contain the virus safely. Perhaps if I can find a way to attach these lipids to the myelin fibers in the neuro-pathways, it can repel the virus. Computer - run a simulation on the scenario - give me a success *hk* probability. *The sentence is cut off with nearly a minute of wracking coughs, followed by a weak groan*
...I'm running out of time. If the computer gives me better than a 40% probability, I'll have to start tests on live subjects. *coughs* ..where's a tribble when you need one? Computer, en- *coughs* ...end log.

*coughs* I.. *coughs again* I've just received report that Lt. Commander Harrison has died. I...
*transmission breaks*
*deep hacking sound*
...sorry. I.. the computer has shown over a 40% probability of success with using the sphere lipids to create a cure for the virus. I've been playing with the formula some, to see if I can get better numbers. I've also started a bio replicator to start trying to grow the first test subjects. Hopefully I can have a working formula by time the subjects are done growing. I hope this works. If it doesn't, tell -
