Star date 91556.24 - Kayce... Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kasandi D'Saryn speaking. Star Fleet has asked me to begin a preliminary report on my species, to help with any medical services they may need as we begin to take to the stars. As the galactic vanguard for my people, I will try to be detailed. Contrary to outward appearances the people of K'smyt seem to have no direct common ancestry with the Vulcan or Romulan people. As opposed to their Hemocyanin, the K'smythi people have an iron - vanadium combination, giving our blood more of a deep orange color when oxidized. Our circulatory system is similar to humans, but the secondary hemoprotein allows us to perform longer, on average, while under stress without experiencing fatigue. Musculature appears unique amongst space faring humanoid races, the myo-tissues predominantly made up of slow twitch fibers, but containing specialized adreno activated proteins allowing the fibers to briefly switch to fast twitch groups, allowing prolonged activity followed by strong sudden bursts of extra energy. These traits, along with others to be listed later lead to a finding that the K'ysmythi evolved as predators and hunters.

Kayce slumped into her chair, waves of exhaustion washing over her, cleansing way stress, kicking up mental sediment that muddied up her memories until they all ran together and vanished into dark hidden depths of her mind, buried behind a whirlpool of the last day and half's happenings. She reached into her desk, pulling out a small thin box, dumping a tiny pellet of inaprovaline bicarbonate into the palm of her hand, then into a half empty glass of room temperature water. She couldn't remember when it had been left there - if she had left it there or one of her staff, but the faint ghost of lipstick on the rim of the glass looked like her shade, and her head was too heavy to put up any convincing counter arguments as the small pellets erupted into fizz, then foam, turning the water a slight amber color before Kayce devoured it. She rested her head in her palms and waited for her mind to clear. For her muscles to obey.
She had been moving between the sick bay and the med lab in a frenzied state of urgency for the last 30 hours, her entire staff on call and in crisis mode following one of Station 332's exploratory crafts returning from a preliminary survey of one of the asteroid belt's larger objects. Readings were recorded. A sample was taken, and a malignant strain of parasitic fungus had been brought aboard the small vessel. It moved quickly, breeding in the dark, moist environment of the crews lungs, then quickly metastasizing through out their circulatory and lymphatic systems. 30 hours. There was one fatality en route back to the station. Two while the first attempt at a counter agent was developed and synthesizing. One more when that treatment failed to have any effect. It had been 30 hours, and Kayce waited to see how the remaining eight of a crew of twelve faired.
"Doctor"
Kayce could feel a shadow over her back, stretching across her desk, before she heard the woman enter the room.
"Ketocal-Z 14 seems to be showing positive effects. 5 out of 8 patients are showing symptoms of recovery - the remainder are still critical, but no longer deteriorating."
Kayce allowed a slight nod and a sigh of relief.
"You're calculations were correct Doctor, but now you must sleep. You're cognitive and motor functions are obviously impaired."
Kayce looked up at the young Vulcan woman. She stared impassively back as Kayce began to tingle with the familiar buzz as the adrenaline began to take affect, sending her vision into a tunnel of clarity.
"Second wind, doctor. Bring me the last three medical reports of the three hold outs. Look for vitamin deficiencies, or any common threads of genetic predispositions towards susceptibility to infectious diseases - they were all human, V'yl? The whole crew was human, wasn't it? Get me any and all information about genetic characteristics of the people from their typical geographic ancestral home..."

Star date 91556.63. - The K'smythi people have a higher than baseline resistance to most toxins and chemicals due to a more efficient lymphatic system - an obvious evolutionary adaptation due to K'smyt's inhospitable conditions. While this allows us to more efficiently filter toxins from our blood stream, it has little to no effect on toxins that reach our brain, or any with necrotizing effects, such as many venoms. I have heard rumors of an Orion on the engineering staff, and their species' natural pheremones. Note to self: Run detailed tests to see how susceptible my species are to their wiles. [UPDATE - Met the station Orion. She may be defective. Will need to come in to contact with more of their species for further testing.] Despite a natural resistance to toxins, I have still refrained from drinking while on the station - it would be poor for morale if I was allowed and the rest of the staff was not. **END AUDIO LOG**
